Dr. Sameer Jejurikar Shares How To Take Care Of Scars After Plastic Surgery

Plastic Surgeon Dr. Sameer Jejurikar has been called one of the nation’s best in the industry. In 2012, he was awarded the Compassionate Doctor Certification by Patients’ Choice. Patients’ Choice collected reviews of doctors from their own website as well as Vitals and UCCompareHealthare. His nearly perfect scores land him as one of just 3 percent of doctors who won this award that year.

He works at the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute which is regarded as one of the nation’s best. He received his training at the University of Michigan Medical School. Dr. Sameer Jejurikar’s residency in plastic surgery was completed at the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers.

Scars are inevitable when someone has plastic surgery performed on them. Dr. Sameer Jejurikar posted an article on his blog about how to minimize scars so they’re not as noticeable. He wrote that the first rule is to make sure they aren’t exposed to sunlight. UV rays discolor and damage scars. He suggests people stay indoors after plastic surgery but if they must go out to put either a bandage over any scars or apply SPF 30 or higher sunscreen.

He says to be careful with what you put on scars. Using hydrogen peroxide on them, for example, will result in a nasty looking scar. Putting Vitamin E on a scar, contrary to popular belief, is harmful. He says people can use antibiotic ointments but not too much of it as these, too, will discolor scars.

Dr. Sameer Jejurikar says that the best thing to put on scars is silicone strips. These will help them heal faster and they block out the sun. Silicone strips have a proven track record of leading to thin, pale scars that are not all that noticeable to others.
